Hawai‘i Health at Work Alliance Launches First Survey of Local Businesses and Wellness Programs
– Data will include impact on business performance –
Honolulu, HI (Feb 7, 2017) – Hawai‘i Health at Work Alliance has partnered with research company Market Trends Pacific to survey over 1,000 local companies about workplace wellness. While data from wellness surveys exists on a national level, this is the first significant research survey of local organizations on wellness programs and their impact.
Hawai‘i Health at Work Alliance’s 13-member Wellness Advisory Council provided critical guidance for this initiative.
“Wellness programs in the workplace are crucial to improving the overall health of our residents,” explained Lola Irvin, [email protected] Wellness Advisory Council member and administrator of the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Division of the Hawai‘i Department of Health. “This survey will help us learn what is happening with local wellness programs today, so organizations can develop even more effective programs to promote healthier lifestyles.”
The survey will collect data on a wide array of workplace wellness issues including:
- Impact of workplace wellness programs on business performance measures like employee satisfaction, productivity and company revenues
- Current workplace wellness behavior and usage of workplace wellness programs
- Motivators for developing and implementing wellness programs
- Effectiveness of workplace wellness programs
Market Trends Pacific will focus exclusively on Hawai‘i businesses representing a wide range of sizes, industries and locations across the state. Surveys will be conducted by phone and email during the second and third weeks of February.
The results will be presented at the Hawai‘i Health at Work Alliance meeting on May 18.
“Since Hawai‘i is such a unique place, local research is a critical supplement to existing national research on workplace wellness,” explains Howard Lee, chairman of the board of the Hawai‘i Health at Work Alliance and president and CEO of UHA Health Insurance. “By undertaking our own survey, we believe that we will determine what wellness programs are working for local business and how they positively impact business performance.”
Charter Membership Drive
Hawai‘i Health at Work Alliance is in the midst of a charter membership drive through Feb. 12. Companies that register as charter members for $199 receive access to attend all organization events; member-only case studies, research papers, templates, presentations online toolkits; plus those that have participated in the survey will receive a benchmark report of their own organization’s performance against statewide data on a number of wellness indicators.
